Second-seeded LPM allowed the game's first run in the top of the fifth, but bounced back to register a 3-1 victory over No. 4 Hengehold in the quarterfinals of the Palo Alto Little League City Tournament on Tuesday at Middlefield Ballpark.
After Hengehold had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth, LPM loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame before Sean Weller's singled drove in two runs to give his team the lead for good. A single by winning pitcher Rowan McEvoy got the rally started and Ravi Levens followed with a double. Roy Shadmon walked to set the stage for Weller.
Shadmon and Weller had singled in the fourth and were in scoring position, but Hengehold's Ellis O'Brien registered three straight strikeouts to get out of the inning and keep it a 0-0 game. Hengehold grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Danny Erlich doubled and O'Brien singled him home.
McEvoy came on in relief for Shawn Stem, who had been locked in a scoreless battle with O'Brien until the fifth.
