Alhouse King 6, PA Venture Partners 3
Date of competition: Tuesday, June 9, 2009
Top-seeded Alhouse King Realty became the only unbeaten team left in the tournament after battling back from a three-run deficit to pull out a 6-3 triumph over previously unbeaten Palo Alto Venture Partners at Middlefield Ballpark.
Alhouse came dangerously close to being knocked into the consolation bracket after giving up three runs in the first inning. Alhouse trimmed the deficit to 3-2 before tying the game on a triple by Andrew Robinson that scored Corey Bicknell. Kenta Yanagisawa gave Alhouse the lead with an RBI single with Nick Beeson and Isaac Kasevich following with RBI doubles to make it 6-3.
PAVP grabbed its quick lead with key hits by Forrest Larson and Joe Kelmon, but Bicknell settled down after that and eventually was rewarded with the pitching victory after throwing 5 2/3 innings and allowing only one baserunner after the first inning. Kelmon pitched well for PAVP, but had to leave the game in the fifth after reaching his pitch limit. That's when Alhouse rallied.
