A perfect season for the Palo Alto Oaks came to an end after three games when they dropped the second game of a doubleheader with the Morgan Hill Mudcats on Sunday at Baylands Athletic Center. Palo Alto (3-1) won the opener, 11-5, but dropped the nightcap, 4-3.
In the opener, Palo Alto High grad Jason Kleinhoffer returned to the mound for the first time this season and picked up the win. Kleinhoffer pitched five innings, giving up three runs on only three hits. He struck out five.
The Oaks scored five times in the third inning on just two hits, taking advantage of walks and an error. Bryan Beres had the big hit, knocking in two runs with a single. The Oaks scored twice in the fifth and three more times in the six to put the game away. Beres and Paly grad Nate Ford had three and two hits, respectively. Sacred Heart Prep grad Eric Davila came in to relieve Kleinhoffer in the sixth inning and, in two innings of work, gave up no hits and struck out four.
