The Palo Alto Oaks opened their season Sunday by sweeping the visiting San Jose Baysox, 10-5 and 16-0, at Baylands Athletic Center. In the first game, Palo Alto High grad Nathan Ford, who just graduated from Cornell, led the offense with five hits. Newcomer Doug West collected three hits and scored three times while Bryan Beres launched a towering home run in the third inning to spark the Oaks to a four-run lead.

Also contributing on the offensive side were Paly grad Evan Warner, who collected three hits including a double; Jeff Ramirez, who had a triple and a single and scored two runs, and Justin Freitas, who had two hits including a double. Skylar Brewer got the win with four innings of work. Brewer gave up only one earned run. Ricky Navarro and Matt Rossignol relieved Brewer pitching two and three innings, respectively.

In the nightcap, the Oaks scored early and often and were never in any trouble behind the two-hit pitching of Joe Ramirez. Ramirez gave up no runs and struck out five. In the mercy-rule shortened game, Ryan Morris had the big hit in the second inning with a two-run single. In the second, the Oaks collected six hits and scored seven times. In the third inning, Beres had a two-run double in a three-run inning.

After a scoreless fourth, the Oaks scored six more times in the fifth. Brewer, who had gone in to play first base when shortstop Ben Parnes pulled his hamstring and the Oaks had to shuffle their infield, launched a towering shot over the centerfielder's head with the bases loaded to collect three RBI in the inning.

Jeff Ramirez had three hits and scored three times, Ryan Morris had two hits and knocked in three run and scored two times. Sean Scott had two hits and scored two times. Justin Freitas had two hits, scored two times, and had an RBI double. Evan Warner collected two hits and also scored.
