Varsity Boys Tennis
Gunn 7, Fremont 0
Date of competition: Wednesday, May 6, 2009
The Gunn boys’ tennis team entered the Central Coast Section Team Tournament with the worst record of all the teams entered, just six wins in 21 matches. Gunn coach Jim Gorman, however, knew his team was better than its record and the Titans went out to prove that by posting a 7-0 victory over visiting Fremont on Wednesday in first-round action.
The Titans (7-15) will head to Pebble Beach on Friday to see if they can keep their season going against No. 7 seed R.L. Stevenson (15-2) at 3 p.m. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals next Monday.
Gorman put his team through a tough preseason schedule against many eventual league champions before heading into the even-tougher SCVAL De Anza Division that included many of the top teams in the CCS tournament.
