With its middle distance and distance crews turning in impressive efforts and junior Sunny Margerum winning three events, the Gunn girls’ track and field team ran and jumped past visiting Monta Vista, 75-51, to close the SCVAL De Anza Division regular season on Thursday. Senior Allegra Mayer won the mile in 5:14.6 and took the 800 in 2:24.2, with freshman Kieran Gallagher taking second in the mile in 5:17.5. The Titans now have four runners at 5:20 or below for that event – Mayer, Erin Robinson and Emma Dohner being the others. Gunn also has four more runners who have run between 5:20 and 5:30 (Rachel Wittenauer, Liza Marinaro, Tara Saxena, and Lisa Fawcett). Margerum, meanwhile, had a solid day with victories in the 100 hurdles (15.1 hand time), 300 hurdles (47.1) and long jump (17-5 1/2) in addition to running a leg on the winning 1,600 relay on a day when her father, former Stanford wide receiver Ken Margerum, was selected for the College Football Hall of Fame.
