Varsity Boys Tennis
Menlo-Atherton 7, Mills 0
Date of competition: Wednesday, April 22, 2009
The Menlo-Atherton boys’ tennis team got its long-awaited PAL Bay Division regular-season title on Wednesday following a 7-0 demolition of former league power Mills. While the Bears’ first league title since 1998 has been on their list of goals for the season, something else is now more important – Menlo-Atherton wants to finish league play with a perfect record.
The Bears (12-0, 14-3) will have that opportunity on Thursday when they visit Aragon in the final match of the regular season. M-A had four matches scheduled this week, the final three on the road.
Menlo-Atherton was so dominant against Mills that the Bears’ No. 1 and 2 singles plus No. 1 doubles finished their matches in less than 30 minutes. Alec Haley and George Horowitz won their matches, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
