Gunn junior Sunny Margerum saw a unbeaten streak end but she still won three events and had plenty of help as the Titans rolled over host Milpitas, 88-39, in a SCVAL De Anza Division track and field dual meet on a cool and windy Thursday. Margerum, who had not lost any event in dual meets this season, saw that streak end when she scratched all four of her attempts in the long jump, which is her best event. Margerum, in fact, is the CCS co-leader at 17-8. She made up for that miscue by winning the 100 hurdles in 15.3, the open 100 in 12.0 and the 200 in 25.9. All of the marks were hand-timed. Gunn freshman Julia Maggioncalda won the high jump (5-0) and triple jump (32-11 ½) while senior Allegra Mayer did double duty in the distance races and won the 1,600 (5:14) and 3,200 (11:41.7), both good times on the blustery day. In the 1,600, sophomore Erin Robinson was second in 5:19.2 and sophomore Emma Dohner third in 5:20.7. Perhaps even more impressive was junior Rachel Wittenauer’s 5:28.9 to win the JV race, a time that would win most varsity races. The Gunn girls (3-1) will visit rival Palo Alto next Thursday in their annual showdown.
