Despite missing four starters for various reasons, the Palo Alto boys' tennis team hung tough and pulled out an important 5-2 nonleague triumph over visiting Leland on Wednesday. Every match is important to the Vikings (14-3) at this point in the season, with results helping determine possible seeding for the Central Coast Section tournament.

Paly coach Andy Harader got singles victories at No. 1 (Sam Wong) and 2 singles (Nicky Hu) and a big come-through effort in doubles where none of the teams had their normal pairings. The Vikings will host Monta Vista on Thursday before visiting Sacred Heart Prep in a nonleague match on Monday. Paly then will host Saratoga on Tuesday with an opportunity to tie the Falcons for the SCVAL De Anza Division regular-season title.
