Date of competition: Tuesday, March 31, 2009
Palo Alto suffered its first setback in SCVAL De Anza Division boys' tennis action this season, a tough 4-3 loss to host Saratoga on Tuesday. The Falcons took over sole possession of first place at 7-0 (10-1 overall) while Paly fell into second at 6-1 (11-2).
The Vikings split the singles matches as sophomore Baramee Wongbanchai (6-1, 6-0) and freshman Nicky Hu (6-0, 6-0)won at No. 2 and 4, respectively. Paly senior Sam Wong fell at No. 1, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, and senior Dan Schwartz dropped a straight-set match at No. 3.
That left things to the doubles, where Paly has been very strong this season. Only senior Alan Chen and junior Peter Tseng, however, were able to break through while posting a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. Palo Alto and Saratoga will meet again, on April 21 on the Vikings' courts.
