Gunn junior Sunny Margerum won four events with very good early season marks, but the Titans still didn't have enough depth and dropped a 78-49 decision to host Mountain View to open the SCVAL De Anza Division girls' track and field season on Thursday. Margerum won the 110 high hurdles in 15.41, took the 300 hurdles in 48.45, won the long jump at 17-4 and sped to a 12.85 victory in the 100 meters.

"Although is certainly hurt us not to have the basketball girls (and we were also missing a thrower who is in the school musical), it probably didn't affect the final outcome," said Gunn coach Ernie Lee. "Sunny won four events and we basically pushed in the distance events (strengths for both teams), but we just don't have the depth and Mountain View's weak events are our weak events, as well."
