Fighting for the top spot in a tightly contested West Bay Athletic League race, the Menlo boys' soccer team defeated Crystal Springs 4-0 on the road Monday.

The Knights (9-1-1, 28 points) moves into first place with a game against Harker (8-2-0, 24 points) on Tuesday. Sacred Heart Prep (9-2-0, 27 points) faces The King's Academy on Wednesday and Harker finishes the season against Eastside.

"The team is playing well at the most important time of the year," Menlo Coach Marc Kerrest said. "We took care of business today which leaves us with everything to play for tomorrow. Playing back to back games away against a strong, rested Harker team will be difficult but the boys know what’s at stake and are excited for the opportunity. We will give it our best shot.”

Against the Gryphons, senior Daniel Louie recorded the first goal five minutes into the game after a few deflections. The Knights came out of the half, charging. Louie added another goal on an assist from Andre Gonzalez Lombera with 16 minutes left in the game.

Three minutes later, Gonzalez Lombera, a sophomore, added one of his own on a feed from Alessandro Velazquez. With eight minutes left, Cisco Argueta scored a final goal on a Julian Sheehan assist.
