No. 20 Stanford put up a fight but came up short against No. 1 Texas, 25-22, 25-16, 25-23, Sunday, at Gregory Gymnasium.
Texas (4-0) snapped a five-match losing streak to Stanford (3-1), defeating the Cardinal for the first time since 2013.
Junior opposite Kendall Kipp led Stanford with 12 kills on .476 hitting. Outside hitters Caitie Baird and Natalie Berty had nine kills apiece.
Stanford hit .375 in the opening set, jumping out to a 15-10 advantage but was unable to hold on down the stretch. The Cardinal struggled in the second, hitting just .161 after finding itself out of system trying to handle Texas's serve.
Setter Kami Miner controlled the offense, which hit .255 for the match, with 30 assists. The freshman registered a career-high four kills to go with six digs and a block. Sophomore libero Elena Oglivie collected a match-high 15 digs and tallied five assists.
