The Menlo College softball team opened its season with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Patten, 3-1 and 6-5, Saturday.
Menlo scored three times in the sixth inning to win the opener and scored three seventh-inning runs to force extra innings in the nightcap.
Shortstop Megan Pacchetti drew a two-out walk and designated hitter Courtney Emry followed with a two-run home run to left-center field to put Menlo ahead in the sixth inning. Alisha Vegas added an RBI double.
Menlo pitcher Pam Marchese struck out Patten's Christian Rountree with two runners in scoring position to end the game.
Pacchetti and Emry each doubled home a run and Thomsen singled home a run the seventh inning of the second game to tie it at 5.
Angela Woerz drove in the winning rin in the eighth.
