Date of competition: Saturday, October 5, 2019

The Golden State Athletic Conference has the reputation as one of the toughest conferences for any sport and the Menlo College women's soccer team had an even tougher task in opening conference play against the top-ranked team in the GSAC: seventh-ranked Westmont. The Oaks kept it close the majority of the contest. Two late goals pushed the Warriors ahead of Menlo, 4-1. Westmont improves to 8-1-1 and 2-0 in the GSAC, while Menlo falls to 2-4-1 and 0-1 in conference play.
The Warriors are known for their offensive prowess while the Oaks defense has been less than stellar. Westmont fired their first shot on frame just 1:52 into the contest and then scored in the sixth minute, which was called back for offsides. The Warriors did score a minute later and then added another goal in the first half. Westmont took 19 shots in the first half. Menlo had four, one on net by Kori-Ann Koverman in the 38th minute.
Coming out of the halftime, the Oaks and Warriors played even the first 24 minutes. Meghan Giamona broke the drought with a goal in the 70the minute that drew the Oaks within one. Giamona received a clearance ball on the far side wing, drove into the box, and fired a perfectly placed shot into the top right corner.
Gonzalez Good, Westmont Offense Better
Michelle Gonzalez recorded double digit saves for the third time this season and the second time in as many contests. In total, Gonzalez faced 15 shots and recorded several brilliant stops. Her biggest save came in the 75th minute when she leapt to bring down a shot.
