Palo Alto continued its near-perfect season in the SCVAL De Anza Division boys’ soccer race with a 5-0 romp over visiting Fremont on Wednesday. The Vikings, who already have clinched the division title, improved to 10-0-1 in league (18-1-2 overall) while keeping Fremont winless this season at 0-10.

Paly came out very fast as Fremont played an "offside" trap in order to compress the field and minimize Fremont’s ball-control game. Paly had a number of opportunities, including several one-on-one situations with the Fremont keeper who broke up the plays. There were two balls off the post and it looked like Paly was in for a battle.

However, John Richardson quickly changed the game with a nice cross away from the keeper to the waiting Greg Stewart, who put it away for the eventual winning goal in the first half. The Paly defense kept Fremont away from the net with nice play by Christopherson, Ryan Holland, Riley Smith, and Mark Raftrey. Senior keeper Peter Johnson had one save with only one shot on frame.

Richardson scored the second goal off an assist from senior Michael Hanabusa and John Anderton made it 3-0 off a pass from Kevin Ashworth. It was 4-0 when Christopherson scored an unassisted goal and Fede Clerici finished off the scoring late in the match off an assist from Anderton.

In 11 league matches this season, Palo Alto has given up just one goal.

SCVAL De Anza Division
Fremont 0 0 -- 0
Palo Alto 1 4 -- 5
Paly -- Stewart (Richardson), Richardson (Hanabusa), Anderton (Ashworth), Christopherson (unassisted), Clerici (Anderton).
Records: Fremont 0-10 league; Palo Alto 10-0-1 (18-1-2)
