The Menlo boys' soccer team had a chance to tie for the lead in the West Bay Athletic League, but instead suffered a shocking 1-0 loss to visiting Eastside Prep on Wednesday.
The Knights (7-2-3, 10-4-4) could have pulled into a tie with Sacred Heart Prep with a victory over the Panthers. SHP dropped a frustrating 2-0 decision to King's Academy on Wednesday as the top two teams in the WBAL were upset.
Thus, nothing is changed in the WBAL. Sacred Heart Prep (9-3) still leads Menlo by a mere three points with two matches remaining. Menlo visits SHP on Monday in the final regular-season match at 3 p.m.
Menlo's match with Eastside Prep was a very tough game that came down to a fabulous play from Eastside's Javier Magana, who collected a ball near midfield, took a couple of touches and hit an absolute bullet into the roof of the net. Menlo owned most of the game but just couldn't capitalize
on a host of chances in and around the goal.
