The Palo Alto girls’ soccer team moved back into playoff contention in the SCVAL De Anza Division race with a 2-1 victory over visiting Los Altos on Friday. The Vikings improved to 4-4-2 (8-6-4 overall) for 14 points, jumping ahead of the Eagles (3-3-3, 10-4-3) in the standings with two matches remaining.
Paly senior Elizabeth Petit scored in the 20th minute. The Vikings were awarded a direct kick and Petit nailed the shot into the top-right corner, making it look easy and effortless. The Vikings took a 1-0 lead into the second half, but junior forward Katie Crum scored for Los Altos in the 15th minute to deadlock the match.
Fifteen minutes later, Paly junior Kelly Jenks answered with a header goal, connecting with the ball served up from the corner by senior Jessie Duller. Sophomore Alex Kershner was in the goal for all 80 minutes for Paly and registered eight saves.
