The Menlo boys’ soccer team remained in solid second place in the West Bay Athletic League with a 4-0 victory over visiting Crystal Springs-Uplands on Wednesday. The Knights (6-1-3, 9-3-4) picked up three points for the triumph and now have 21, trailing only first-place Sacred Heart Prep’s 24 points. Should both teams keep winning, they’ll conclude the regular season by facing each other early next month.
Menlo grabbed a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Cristian Fajardo (assist Patrick Renschler) and Charles LeMoullac (assist Sam Woolf). LeMoullac made it 3-0 in the second half (junior Alex Chang assisted) and junior Jackson Badger wrapped up the shutout with Jonathan Melgar providing the assist.
The Knights held Crystal Springs to just one shot while controlling the midfield the entire match. Fajardo scored from the top of the box after good build-up work from seniors Brenden McMorrow and Renschler. LeMoullac, another senior scored on a header for his first goal. Badger’s goal was his first with the varsity.
“It was a fitting end to what had been another very strong game for him in the middle of the field,” Menlo coach Giles Scott said of Badger, “but once again this was a team performance that showed Menlo beginning to regain its confidence.
