Menlo College softball made a quick road trip to San Diego Christian in a doubleheader on Saturday. Menlo and the Hawks split Saturday's doubleheader as The Oaks won game one 13-6 while San Diego Christian won the second game 7-4. The Oaks move to 17-25 overall and 8-10 in GSAC play while San Diego moves to 11-27 overall and 4-14 in conference play.
Game 1:
Menlo got the scoring started in top of the second as Nohea Hee hit a solo home run to give the Oaks the early lead.
Both offenses erupted in the third inning, combining for nine runs. Menlo scored five runs in their half. Ariana Belarde sparked things with a solo home run. Katelyn Magana followed with an RBI single, up the middle to score Makenna Weiler. Regina Juarez recorded a RBI ground-rule double and Madi Sepp drove in two runs with a single to left field.
San Diego Christian countered with four runs in the bottom of the third on one swing of of the bat: a grand slam by Emily Espino.
Menlo opened its lead when Keeley Hernandez hit a two-run homer in the top of the fifth. The Oaks added three more runs in the sixth inning as Lauren Harrison scored after Nohea Hee grounded out to third. Makenna Weiler scored after Regina Juarez grounded out to second and Taylor Warne scored on an error.
Lauren Harrison added a two-run homer.
Sarah Reyes earned the win for the Oaks, throwing an eight-hitter and giving up six runs, one earned. She had five strikeouts and two walks.
Game 2:
Menlo scored three runs through the first two innings, including a Katelyn Magana RBI double, a RBI single by Ariana Belarde and a RBI single by Nohea Hee.
San Diego Christian got two runs back in the third and then took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth.
Menlo scored a run in the top of the seventh on a fielding error, which allowed Mia Thompson to score.
Victoria Cervantes was charged with the loss. She gave up seven runs, one earned, in six innings.
Up next:
The Oaks return home to take on No. 12 Vanguard for a noon doubleheader Friday.
