The Sacred Heart Prep girls' soccer team retook the lead in the West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) for the second time this week with a 2-0 victory over visiting Castilleja on Thursday.
The Gators (6-1, 9-3-3) inched ahead of idle Priory (6-1, 10-4-1) with the victory and now have 19 points. The Panthers are second with 18. Third-place Menlo took 13 points into a scheduled match against Notre Dame-San Jose on Thursday.
Sacred Heart Prep grabbed a 1-0 halftime lead when Lizzy Weisman scored off an assist by Abby Dahlkemper. It was 2-0 in the second half when Dahlkemper scored an unassisted goal. The Gators will visit Menlo on Tuesday (3 p.m.) in yet another big match.
Castilleja keeper Allie May had eight saves against the Gators, including blocking a Dahlkemper penalty-kick attempt. Castilleja, however, had only five shots on goal. The Gators (1-4-1, 3-6-2) hope to play a spoiler role against Priory on Tuesday in a 3 p.m. match at the Mayfield Soccer Complex.
