The Gunn girls’ soccer team took over sole possession of first place in the SCVAL El Camino Division with a convincing 8-2 victory over visiting Fremont on Friday evening. The triumph marked the halfway point in league play as well as the end of finals week for the Titans.
Gunn (4-0-2, 6-5-3) scored early and often, with five different players tallying goals and five different players providing assists. Erin Robinson opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a 10-yard shot from the left side with Eleanor Greely providing the assist. Nikki Bahlman then scored the next two goals at the 11th and 15th minutes, the first on a breakaway started with a thru pass provided by Bonnie Cardillo, and the second from 15 yards out with a short service from Robinson.
Libby Burch then scored two consecutive goals in the 18th and 22nd minutes, with Robinson again providing the cross service from the left side on the first goal and Greely giving a drop pass to Burch for her to burst thru on the second goal.
Bahlman scored her third goal and completed a hat trick in the 23rd minute off another thru pass from Burch. Fremont scored a goal in the 34th minute, resulting in a 6-1 halftime score.
In the second half, Fremont scored its second goal in the 57th minute off a short cross from the left side. Gunn responded with Greely’s 10- yard goal in the 59th minute off a pass into the box from Sabina Sood.
