Following their worst week of the season, the 11th-ranked Oaks ended their two-game skid, taking down the San Diego Christian 75-56. The Oaks got off to slow start, scoring 14 in the first quarter, but that quickly changed as they built on their lead for the next three quarters, eventually winning by 19. With the win, the Oaks improve to 12-4 and 3-3 in the GSAC, while the Hawks fall to 6-12 and 0-6 in the conference.
Bowie's (Near) Historic Night
Destinee Bowie made some personal history and nearly made Menlo College women's basketball history. Bowie finished just one block shy of the program's first ever triple-double. Her final stat line read: 17 points, 18 rebounds, 9 blocks. This was Bowie's 6th double-double of the season, two more than she had a season ago.
Cordinier's Career High
Freshman guard Salome Cordinier set a season high in points, scoring 13. Her previous best was nine, which she did against the University of Providence three weeks ago in the Frontier Classic. Cordinier was a perfect 6 of 6 from the charity stripe and also added two assists. The freshman is really beginning to develop nicely as GSAC play wears on and she found her shooting touch.
The Oaks effectively shut down the San Diego Christian Hawks from minute one of the match. The Hawks only shot 35 percent from the field, with one player shooting over 50 percent and that was Stacy Hock, who made her only shot. The Oaks also came up with a season high 15 blocks, two more than against Our Lady of the Lake in the Peninsula Classic' The Oaks were constantly deflecting passes away, an effort led by Cordinier.
The Oaks have a quick turnaround, as they will take on the fifth-ranked Vanguard Lions on Saturday afternoon inside Haynes-Prim. The Lions are the only team ranked higher than the Oaks in the GSAC. Last year, the Oaks handed Vanguard their first loss of the season when they were ranked No. 1. Vanguard is currently 13-3 and 5-1 in the GSAC. Tip-off is set for 2 pm.
