The Spirit of Morgan Hill 12U travel softball team held off the Palo Alto Redwoods in the silver championship game of the Keilani Ricketts tournament played in South San Jose. The game ended with fireworks, as a furious rally by the Redwoods in the final inning was stopped short by a very close call at home plate with a sliding Ruth being called out. The Redwoods re-grouped before the final out, with Vanessa hitting a massive and towering HR to right field. But to their credit Spirit held off the Redwoods to claim the championship with a well deserved victory. Lauryn and Ruth worked the mound for Palo Alto. Ironically, Palo Alto Redwoods outhit Spirit, getting a total of 12 hits. Key hitting contributors included Thalia, Ella, Hana, Sierra, Lili, Lexie, Vanessa and Aarushi. Isabella came into to help the defense in the championship game after winning the semi-finals game on the mound. The end result for Palo Alto Redwoods was a strong 2nd place showing in a very competitive tournament, a fitting cap to a very successful fall season for the Redwoods.
