The Menlo College women's volleyball team opened play in October a lot better than it finished September, sweeping host William Jessup, 25-14, 25-19, 25-12, in a Golden State Athletic Conference match Tuesday.
After dropping three straight and four of five, the Oaks (8-5, 5-4) healed themselves against the Warriors in a match that lasted 1:11.
McDonald: I'm Loving It
Maggie McDonald was an offensive force for the Oaks. She was the lone player from either team to record double digit kills with 16, and did with an efficient hitting percentage of .441. The Oaks hit .304, easily trumping Jessup's meager .020 hitting percentage.
Sharing the Love
Every Menlo player who stepped on the court recorded at least one positive statistic, be it a kill, assist, service ace, dig, or block.
Statistical leaders, in addition to McDonald, were Pamela Dungo with 28 assists and three service aces, Lucyanna Herrera with 14 digs and Emily Sunada with two blocks.
A Check of the Standings
The Oaks remain in sixth place in the GSAC, a half game out of fourth place. A win in their next match would allow the Oaks to leapfrog over both Westmont and Hope International through the first half of GSAC play.
Up Next…
The Oaks hit the road to face Life Pacific College on Friday. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in San Dimas.
