The Sacred Heart Prep girls' soccer team maintained its share of second place in the West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) with a closer-than-expected 3-2 victory over visiting Notre Dame-San Jose on Thursday.
The Gators (2-0-1, 5-3-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half after Lizzy Weisman (assist Kira Abe) and Nicole Quilliam (assist Geena Graumann) both scored. Notre Dame ended the shutout just before halftime. The Gators made it a 3-1 match after intermission when Abe scored an unassisted goal.
Sacred Heart Prep will have a chance to take over first place next week by beating Mercy-Burlingame on Tuesday (at Skyline College) and then division leader Priory next Thursday on the Panthers' field at 3 p.m.
