Menlo 11, Sierra Nevada 0
Date of competition: Wednesday, September 26, 2018
Menlo College looked as fresh as ever after a 10-day break, thwarting visiting Sierra Nevada College, 11-0, on Wednesday.
The Oaks, who have never lost to the Eagles, started the scoring early and never let up. With the victory, the Oaks improved to 6-2, while the Eagles fell to 0-5.
A Game of Firsts
Menlo was able to build a lead thanks to contributions from a plethora of players. Luis Nunez, Angelo Willi, and Fernando Menera all recorded their first goals of the season, in the 9th, 10th, and 55th minutes respectively. In addition, Giovanny Gomes, David Rodriguez, and Trey Taniguchi each picked up their first assists. Eleven different players have recorded either a goal or an assist in a match.
A Match of Multiples
Eric Hegmann and David Rodriguez each scored twice. Hegmann is no stranger to multi-goal matches, having done it six times for the Oaks over the past two seasons. Rodriguez has made his presence known as a young upstart on this team, with his first multi goal match. Rodriguez also added an assist, giving him five points in the match, and seven on the season.
History on Double-Digit Victories
The Oaks were able to light up the scoreboard at Wunderlich for the first time since 2016. The last time the Oaks did it was in a 12-0 victory against Pacific Union College, in which Luis Nunez struck twice, Alex Avila and Leonardo Barcellos scored once, and Trey Taniguchi, Cameron Bellucci, and Stephen Levy all recorded assists.
As if the Oaks last road trip wasn't difficult enough, facing three ranked opponents, they return to the road for a matchup with (17) Westmont College on Saturday in Santa Barbara. The Oaks are 3-2-1 all time against the Warriors. Westmont is currently 4-2-2, including a loss to UC Merced (whom the Oaks defeated) and a draw with Marymount California University (who defeated the Oaks). Westmont takes on William Jessup Thursday. Saturday's Kickoff is set for noon.
