In a match between contenders in the West Bay Athletic League, host Menlo and Priory battled to a scoreless draw on Wednesday in Atherton. The Knights remain among the division leaders at 2-0-2 (5-2-2 overall) but Priory dropped back with its 1-1-2 mark.
"It was a very entertaining scrap between two evenly matched teams," said Menlo coach Gilles Scott.
Menlo played an excellent first half and should have been ahead at the break after missing several good opportunities. Seniors Sam Woolf and Michael Walker, in particular, were solid as was the entire defensive line.
In the second half, however, Priory came back aggressively and really took the game to Menlo for the first 20 minutes or so. The last 15 minutes were more evenly matched with both teams having chances. "Woolf almost grabbed the game for Menlo at the last with a great downward header from a Brenden McMorrow cross, but a tie was a fair result," Scott said.
