Varsity Boys Soccer
Palo Alto 2, Gunn 0
Date of competition: Friday, December 19, 2008
The Palo Alto boys' soccer team will start the new year atop the SCVAL De Anza Division standings following a 2-0 victory over visiting Gunn on Friday.
Both teams battled for nearly 19 minutes before Paly's Spencer Sims broke the scoring drought after taking a pass from John Anderton. The Vikings (2-0, 10-0-1) came out of halftime and scored in the first minute as Anderton took a pass from John Christopherson and scored for a 2-0 match.
Despite five more close scoring opportunities, Paly could not put any more balls in the goal in the second half. Gunn freshman keeper Cameron McElfresh had several diving saves to keep the score close. Paly senior keeper Peter Johnson had one save in the second half in the final five minutes as the Paly defense consisting of Christopherson, Ryan Holland, Riley Smith, and Mark Raftrey had solid games.
