Despite missing three starters for varying reasons, the Priory girls' soccer team nonetheless blanked host King's Academy, 2-0, to open the new West Bay Athletic League season. Freshman Eugenia Jernick scored the winning goal off an assist from junior Adriana Cortes. Senior Leslie Barkmann provided an insurance goal off an assist from senior Sarah Montgomery.
"We created many opportunities to score, and absolutely need to improve our goal-scoring," said Priory head coach Armando Del Rio. "Overall, I was happy with the win away on a tough field as we were missing Massiel Castellanos (stress fracture), Zoe Ciupitu (school final) and Darrah Shields (ankle)."
Priory will host Castilleja in a league match Thursday (3 p.m.) and then will be tested by host Los Altos in a nonleague match Friday at 3:30 p.m., before taking a break for the holidays.
