After a disappointing season a year ago, the Gunn girls' soccer squad looks to get back to winning ways. A 3-1 nonleague win over visiting Menlo-Atherton certainly will help the Titans in their goal.
Gunn (2-2) has a balanced attack that should give its opponents fits all year. Many of the Titans have played varsity for four years and this year it is paying dividends.
"We have a good group that can attack," said Gunn head Coach Ed Cervantes. "They've played together and they know what each other can do."
Against Menlo-Atherton, the scoring started when an Eleanor Greely shot was deflected by the M-A goalie, but Taylor Gardiner knocked it in to put Gunn up 1-0 just 16 minutes into the match. In the second half nearly 20 minutes in, Erin Robinson scored on an assist from Nikki Bahlman to give the Titans a 2-0 advantage.
With 10 minutes left in the match, a Bears' goal cut lead in half. In the final minutes, Gunn's Libby Burch received a nice pass from Bahlman and dribbled up the middle and tapped the ball past the goalie for an insurance goal.
