Date of competition: Tuesday, December 2, 2008
Palo Alto remained unbeaten in boys' soccer with a 3-0 win over visiting Menlo-Atherton in a Homestead Christmas Cup tournament game Tuesday. The match originally was scheduled for last Saturday but was postponed.
The Vikings (2-0-1) got the eventual game-winning goal at the 25:00 mark of the first half when junior Spencer Sims scored off a pass from senior Kevin Ashworth. In the second half, senior Adam Zernik scored on a penalty kick at 45:00. Junior John Anderton finished the scoring off a cross from senior Michael Hanabusa in the 86th minute.
Paly senior keeper Peter Johnson did a nice job of closing down any attempts on the goal and had three saves. Menlo-Atherton fell to 1-1 overall. Palo Alto next visits St. Ignatius on Thursday at 6 p.m., and will continue with tournament play on Saturday at Yerba Buena High at 3:15 p.m.
