The Palo Alto boys' soccer team came within a second of remaining perfect this season, but a penalty kick with no time on the clock gave host Carlmont a 1-1 deadlock with the Vikings on Monday. One referee called the foul outside the box while the other said the foul occured just inside the box. "And the rest is history," said Paly coach Don Briggs.
Palo Alto (1-0-1) grabbed the lead on a goal by Kevin Ashworth. The Vikings will host Menlo-Atherton today (3:15 p.m.) in a Homestead Christmas Cup match that was postponed from Saturday.
