The Menlo boys' soccer team opened play in the Homestead Christmas Cup tournament with a 1-0 loss to the host Mustangs on Saturday. The Knights (0-2-0) "played very well, despite the loss, especially in the second half," said coach Gilles Scott.
Senior Michael Walker, playing in his first game for Menlo, was solid in the midfield while both the Padval twins, Sanjay and Vikram (also playing in their first game), also brought energy and intesity to the Menlo effort. Menlo's defensive line was very good, but the standout player was Menlo goalkeeper, Khalid Bitar, who made a number of phenomenal saves in order to keep Menlo in the game.
