Varsity Boys Water Polo
Menlo 22, Willow Glen 7
Date of competition: Saturday, November 15, 2008
The Menlo boys' water polo team took another step closer to what could be a showdown with Sacred Heart Prep in the Central Coast Section Division II championship match following a 22-7 dunking of No. 10 Willow Glen on Saturday at Aptos High.
The No. 2-seeded Knights (21-6) had an easy time in the quarterfinal as expected. Menlo grabbed a 12-2 halftime lead and coasted from there. Senior James Balassone scored four goals while Jack Finch added four goals, as well. Chris Akin and seniors Gerrard Clark and Will Tashman all added three goals while senior goalie Scott Platshon needed only eight saves in the victory.
Menlo next will face No. 3 Soquel (18-11) in the semifinals on Tuesday. The Knights already have beaten Soquel this season.
