Game Highlights: The Menlo-Atherton varsity girls soccer team remains undefeated in the league with a 5-1 win over Hillsdale on Tuesday (at Hillsdale). The Bears scored in the first minute off of steal by Margaret Child followed by textbook quick passing from Katie Guenin to Yara Gomez to Josephine Cotto for the goal. Guenin scored the 2nd goal off following a give-and-go header series between her and Cotto, tapping in the final assist from Cotto. A foul on Mara Cavallero outside the box resulted in a cross by Alissa McNerney, which was volleyed by Guenin to hit the cross bar and rebounded into the net by Diana Morales for goal 3, for a score of 3-1 at the half. In the second half, Morales tapped the ball to McNerney who nailed a long ball outside the 18 for the 4th goal. The final goal came from a shot by Cotto which the Knights keeper was unable to save. The entire team contributed to the Bears win with a terrific defensive save late in the 2nd half by junior Olivia Shane to keep the final score 5-1. Menlo-Atherton next plays Aragon (at M-A) on February 11th at 11 am.
