Game Highlights: The Menlo-Atherton varsity girls soccer team remains undefeated in league play following a win against the Capuchino Mustangs at Capuchino (game played at Skyline College). The Bears allowed 2 Mustang goals in the first half which were quickly answered by M-A, with the first goal coming off a right cross by senior Katie Guenin to junior Diana Morales for the shot. Guenin scored the second goal from an assist by junior Josephine Cotto, to tie the score 2-2 at the half. The Bears took over from there, sealing the win with 4 goals in the second half. Goal number 3 came from junior Mara Cavallaro from an assist by Guenin. Guenin powered up the field to score the 4th goal right after being taken down on a header by the Mustang defense. Menlo-Atherton stayed sharp, with senior Alissa McNerney firing a shot high into the net for the 5th goal, from an assist by Cavallaro. In the last minute of the game, Cotto sent a perfect pass to senior Nicole Salz, who scored goal number 6. Bears midfielders played strong, including McNerney, Salz, junior Olivia Shane, sophomore Yara Gomez Zavala, and the defense ensured the shut-out second half with keeper Breanna Sandoval and defenders Ali Sivilotti, Allison Galbraith, Grace Brieger, and Maggie Hall forming the wall. Menlo-Atherton next plays Woodside (at M-A) on January 26th at 4 pm.
