On a chilly and often times rainy Thursday, Menlo College and Biola were locked in a Golden State Athletic Conference clash that resulted in bonus soccer.

Playing for the second time this season, the two teams played back and forth soccer that saw Biola take an early lead, Menlo score twice in under 30 seconds, and the Eagles tally the equalizer with under nine minutes remaining in regulation. But, when the dust settled, the Oaks, who were playing a man down since the 60th minute, used a brilliant sequence early in overtime to score the game-winner in a 3-2 victory and head home in second place in the conference and controlling their own destiny for one of the coveted first-round byes in the GSAC tournament. Menlo improved to 12-4-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the conference while Biola fell to 10-5 and 5-4 in GSAC play.

Just one minute and 16 seconds into the first overtime Jonny Ensch flicked a ball into the box to a crashing David Beary who beat the keeper near post to send Menlo home 3-2 winners. The goal was Beary’s second of the season.
