The Menlo-Atherton Bears knocked off visiting Menlo in a rainy, sloppy football game on Saturday. The Bears (3-0, 6-2) overcame seven fumbles to win 31-13 and maintain their first place position in the the PAL Bay Division.
M-A relied mostly on its ground game as senior Vaughn Smith rushed for over 200 yards for the second straight week and Will Preston had two touchdown runs.
Menlo was without its star player, Jerry Rice Jr., who was sidelined by a hip injury. Menlo struggled offensively, even though Danny Diekroeger returned to his starting quarterback position following an injury and threw two touchdown passes both to Chris Ryan for Menlo's 13 points. Menlo fell to 2-2 in league play and 6-2 overall.
