Menlo College women’s soccer was fresh off its first conference win of the season last week and were in search of their first GSAC win at home on Thursday as they played hosted to the William Jessup Warriors.

The Oaks used goals in the 10th and 30th minutes and another stifling defensive effort to notch the shutout and pick up the victory and three points.

The win moves Menlo to 7-2-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in GSAC play while William Jessup falls to 4-7 and 0-3 within the conference.

The first goal of the day came in just the 10th minute when the Oaks pushed the pace in the final third and drew a corner kick opportunity. Jelissa Blanco took the kick from the far corner and delivered a well place ball to the back post where Danielle Robinson was waiting. Robinson did exactly what she needed to do with it and sent the header past William Jessup keeper Brianna Evans for the eventual game winner.

Twenty minutes later Brittany Squarcia got in on the scoring action with a goal off a well-placed ball from Rachel McCloskey for her third goal of the season to add the ever-important insurance goal to the scoreboard.

Those two goal would prove to be more than enough for Menlo as the Oaks posted their second consecutive shutout within the conference for the victory. In the first half it was all Menlo with nine shots, four on frame to just two total shots for the Warriors. It was much of the same in the second as Menlo fired eight shots to William Jessup’s three.

Menlo moves into third place in the conference standings with the three-point afternoon as they kick off a three-game home stand. The home stand continues Tuesday against Arizona Christian and concludes on Saturday with a meeting with No. 11 Vanguard.
