The Sacred Heart Prep football team took a big step toward clinching the PAL Ocean B Division title by running past visiting Half Moon Bay, 49-33, in a wild offensive display on Friday.
The victory in the showdown between the division's top two teams left the Gators unbeaten at 4-0 in league (7-0 overall) and in the driver's seat for a possible postseason playoff berth.
Sacred Heart Prep jetted to a 28-point halftime lead and never looked back while remaining perfect in its first season in the Central Coast Section. The Gators can wrap up the Ocean B title with a win over Carlmont next weekend, and then will take on King's Academy of the Ocean A Division for the Ocean's lone automatic CCS berth.
Half Moon Bay (3-1, 5-2) fell behind by 42-14 at halftime as SHP scored touchdowns on its first six possessions, including four TDs of at least 70 yards. The Gators amassed 478 first-half yards to equal their previous season-best point total in just 24 minutes.
Sacred Heart Prep entered the game averaging 412 yards per game on offense and needed just two plays to assert its explosive scoring ability. Victor Ojeda (135 yards and two TDs on 13 rushes) raced down the left sideline for an 83-yard TD run and a 7-0 lead 50 seconds into the game. Teammate Matt Walter (eight carries; 184 yards) had TD runs of 80 and 71 yards. And Matt Bocci caught a 70-yard TD pass from quarterback Ryan Sakowski (6-of-10 passing for 200 yards; two TDs and no interceptions) in SHP's wild first-half performance. SHP finished with 591 offensive yards, 391 coming on the ground.
