The Sacred Heart Prep girls' water polo team moved closer to clinching the West Catholic Athletic League regular-season title by beating visiting St. Francis, 6-3, on Thursday. The Gators are 4-0 in league (13-4 overall) with matches remaining against Valley Christian and St. Ignatius next week.
Sacred Heart put the game away by grabbing a 4-1 halftime lead on goals by Pippa Temple, Yvonne Dunlevie and Elizabeth Carey. Two more goals by Carey in the third quarter put the game further out of reach of the Lancers.
Sacred Heart Prep is back in the pool this weekend, defending its title in the 14th annual Amanda MacDonald Invitational. The championship game is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the Menlo College pool. SHP defeated Menlo-Atherton in last season's title match and the same teams could meet again.
