The Pinewood football team bounced back from the first loss in school history, outscoring host Shandon High, 46-36, in a Coast Athletic League game Saturday in Paso Robles. The Panthers improved to 5-1 in their first season ever of eight-man football.
Pinewood's offensive one-two punch of Max Lippe and Connor Whitlock once again proved successful. Lippe completed six of 10 passes for 82 yards and one touchdown while Whitlock carried 18 times for 128 yards, scored two touchdowns and completed two touchdown passes to Lippe.
Jonas Fernbach had a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown while helping Pinewood jump out to a 22-0 first-quarter lead. Shandon battled back and made it 22-14 at halftime.
Pinewood's defense stepped up with Dante Fraoli making 13 tackles and Peter Gallagher contributing 16 stops, plus a fourth-quarter interception in the closing minutes to seal the victory. Pinewood has a bye this coming week and will then travel to Crystal Springs for its final game of the year.
