Keeping their streak of winning -- or tying -- for soccer championship in even years, the top-seeded Menlo School girls captured the Central Coast Section Division II title with a 2-1 victory over defending champion Sacred Heart Prep on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Valley Christian High in San Jose. The section title is Menlo's third since 2012, when the Knights captured their first outright crown. Menlo tied with SHP in '14.

Menlo (14-2-6) got on the board first on a goal by freshman Alexa Thomases in the 15th minute. Senior Zoe Enright provided the eventual winning goal in the 53rd minute. Seventh-seeded SHP (15-6-2) ended the shutout by converting a penalty kick in the 80th minute. Menlo senior keeper Schuyler Tilney-Volk came up with 10 unofficial saves as the Knights evened their all-time series with the Gators since the teams began playing in the West Bay Athletic League in 2009. The series now stands at 5-5-9 .
