Watsonville 3, Palo Alto 2
Date of competition: Saturday, February 27, 2016
The Palo Alto boys saw their potentially historic soccer season come to an end in a 3-2 double-overtime loss to visiting and No. 5-seeded Watsonville (14-2-5) in a Central Coast Section Open Division opener on Saturday. The No. 4-seeded Vikings came into the first-ever Open playoffs with a 15-0-4 record and a shot at registering the program's first unbeaten season since 1971.
Palo Alto, however fell behind by 2-1 at halftime after losing a player to a red card on a hand ball in the penalty box in the middle of the first half. The Vikings played a man down the second half, but tied the match at 2 to send it to overtime. Watsonville got the game-winner with time running out in the second OT.
