Varsity Girls Tennis
Menlo 5, Sacred Heart Prep 2
Date of competition: Wednesday, October 15, 2008
Some things never seem to change for the Menlo girls' tennis team. After going undefeated in league play (GPSL, PAL Bay Division) since 1994, the Knights moved to the new West Bay Athletic League this season. Thus far, Menlo is still undefeated.
The Knights (5-0, 7-7) kept their historic winning streak in league play alive by upending WBAL (Foothill Division) rival Sacred Heart Prep, 5-2, on Wednesday. Menlo is 153-0 in league matches since last losing in '94.
The Gators (4-1, 9-3) figured to possibly end that streak this season, but the Knights kept it alive for another day with a solid performance. Anjali Ranadive, Alex Heaney and Sidney Matteson all won their singles matches after teammate Emily Shine had lostat No. 1 to SHP's Anne Robson. Only Matteson was forced to a third set in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Kristen Rodgers.
Menlo also took No. 1 and No. 3 doubles while rebounding from a tough 0-4 showing in last weekend's National Invitational in Newport Beach.
