Monta Vista 35, Gunn 13
Date of competition: Friday, October 10, 2008
The Gunn football team ended two long scoreless streaks, but didn't end the one that counted most while dropping a 35-13 decision to Monta Vista in a SCVAL El Camino Division game Friday night at Cupertino High.
The Titans (0-1, 0-5) snapped two 11- quarter scoreless streaks against the Matadors. Gunn had been shut out in its two previous games, 33-0 by San Mateo and 43-0 by Palo Alto. In addition, Gunn had been blanked by Monta Vista the past two seasons, 30-0 and 35-0.
The scoreless streaks ended as Nikko Jackson scored on runs of one and 13 yards in the fourth quarter. It was, however, a small consolation for the Titans on a night that saw the Matadors score early and dominate. Monta Vista led by 21-0 at the half and 35-0 before Gunn finally scored. The Titans will host first-place Homestead next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
