Varsity Boys Soccer
Menlo School 3, Aragon 2
Date of competition: Friday, December 4, 2015
The Menlo School boys opened their soccer season with a 3-2 nonleague victory over host Aragon on Friday afternoon. The Knights started the game well, but found themselves behind early. In Aragon's first foray into the Menlo half, a Dons player went down rather easily after a challenge from senior defender Kian Seddighnezhad and, after some hesitation, the referee pointed to the penalty spot. The Aragon player stepped up and calmly slotted the ball in the side netting, giving Menlo junior goalie Nolan Peterson no chance.
The Knights picked themselves up quickly and equalized a few minutes later. Some good ball movement in midfield set senior captain Andrew Arnold free down the right wing. Senior Will Chisholm met Arnold's cross with a thundering header which the keeper could only parry and junior defender Adam Moledina alertly pounced on the rebound to level for Menlo. A few minutes later, Chisholm gave the Knights the lead after hustling to win the ball back off a defender and finishing with aplomb in the top corner. Chisholm doubled his tally shortly thereafter with a brilliant left footed chip into the top corner after being sent through on goal by sophomore winger David Quezada.
Menlo missed a few chances to put the game away and almost regretted it. Aragon came into the game as the second half wore on and pulled one back midway through the second half. The Dons' tricky forward found the ball at his feet after Menlo failed to deal with a free kick and drilled the ball into the back of the net. The Knights saw out the game thanks to excellent defending from senior captain Michael Quezada.
