The Palo Alto boys opened their soccer season with a solid 3-0 blanking of visiting Milpitas in nonleague action on a rainy Thursday. The Vikings got the eventual winning goal by senior Dami Bolarinwa at the 20-minute mark of the first half, on an assist from senior Cole Tierney. Paly continued to push hard in the second half and broke the game open when Neil Verwillow took a blocked shot and slammed it into the left corner. The final goal came midway in the second half when Michel-Ange Siaba beat the Milpitas right back and took the ball to the end line and made a perfect cross to the waiting Roberto Sotelo, who slammed it past the diving keeper. Milpitas had no shots on goal as the Vikings’ defensive effort was solid. Defenders Declan Cassini, Matt Knowles, Schoenberger, Huard and Verwillow all stood out for Paly.
