Menlo College made the road trip north to Rocklin for a critical Tuesday afternoon conference match against the William Jessup Warriors. The Oaks, who entered the day third in the GSAC with 13 points, were unable to overcome a first half William Jessup goal and ultimately fell 1-0.

A first half offensive barrage was more or less weathered by the Oaks minus one critical goal. The Warriors of William Jessup ripped 13 shots in the match, 10 of which came in the first half but only four of those shots were on frame. Kaylin Swart made a pair of saves in the first half, but an unassisted goal from Dahila Rodriguez, her third of the season, made it 1-0 in the 37th minute.

The second half was a similar struggle for Menlo College as they were unable to solve the physical, defensive minded play of the Warriors. They continued to attack, holding a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal in the second frame and even got a couple of good looks but could not find the back of the net.

One of those good looks came in the 83rd minute off a corner kick. The ball caromed off a Warrior defender and Jelissa Blanco found herself with a chance in front of the net. Blanco struck it high and out of the reach of William Jessup keeper Alison Marlow but it was just a bit too high and banged off the crossbar thwarting one of the best chances of the day for the navy and white.

Blanco was the leading shot producer for the Oaks with three, Carolina Velez, Brittney Wisecarver and Alana Kualapai each recorded a shot as well.

The loss drops Menlo to 8-4-4 overall and 4-3-1 in the GSAC with two conference games remaining. William Jessup improves to 9-6 overall and 2-5 within the conference.

Menlo plays its final home match of the regular season on Thursday against William Jessup at 3:30 p.m.
